"You take the blue pill, and the story ends...You take the red pill, and you stay in wonderland. I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. And remember, all I'm offering is the truth and nothing more." -The Matrix, 1999
Now that we've geeked out over the cinematic classic, The Matrix, we can get back to the Green Pill. Right now, we are at a crossroads. There are two pills. Take one pill, and the story ends. We continue living as we always have and ignore the consequences of our actions by chalking them up to uncontrollable phenomenon. Practically, this means ignoring the impacts of human behavior upon the planet, quieting those who call attention to social inequities, and downplaying the potential for economic growth and development in new areas. This first pill is one of comfortable ignorance.
The other pill is the Green Pill. The Green Pill is the start of a different story, our collective story. It's a somewhat uncomfortable reality because the rabbit hole is deep. This plot demands accountability and facilitates significant change. Truth and awareness accompany the Green Pill. Take the Green Pill, and there's no stopping because complacency is the enemy of progress. There's no covering our eyes and blindly following trends.
The Green Pill intends to introduce stances and topics that may counter the mainstream for the sake of the bioeconomy. Why? Because the bioeconomy is the way forward. It is today's Green Pill. Take it, and there's no turning back.
